Reinvent Your Workwear

August 17, 2015

Happy Monday everyone! Hope you all had a great weekend. We really enjoyed spending some quality time with my family on my parents’ farm. I shared a snap on Instagram if you follow me there. Lots of fishing, playing with my adorable niece and nephew, eating my mom’s amazing food, and generally having a good time. It’s fun to trade my heels in for boots occasionally.

Today’s look is a totally recycled one. I love this gingham top. You last saw it here styled for a date night look. It’s one of my favorite pieces, but I’ll be honest, it feels a little one dimensional. I really wanted to get some additional wear out of it before the summer season closed, so I challenged myself to come up with another, more wearable outfit. Since work is where I spend most of my time, I added it to one of my all-time favorite pencil skirts and topped it with a jean jacket to make it office appropriate. I try to get creative with my workwear because it’s easy for it to get boring. It made me realize it’s easy to reinvent your workwear by styling a nontraditional work piece with more classic workwear for a polished and professional but non-stuffy look. How do you restyle pieces to make totally different looks or reinvent your workwear?

Summer can be so fleeting sometimes – especially here in the UK so this is a great idea to get some extra mileage out of a favourite top. I like the denim jacket with the heels. The formal and the casual work together by meeting somewhere in the middle so are ideal for days where you don’t need to be quite so formal but when you want to be slightly more edge with the casual this is perfect too! The skirt is to die for.

Love this different take on gingham, it’s such a pretty look. And can we talk about how I’m having major hair envy?! Gorgeous!!

I love what you did here. Perfectly appropriate for work but with an edgy kick! I also love how you styled the top previously with the wide-leg pants and hot pink heels. Btw, did you change your hair color a bit? The ashy undertones are awesome!

Love all the ways you paired the pieces in your outfit. I have to say the one thing I sometimes dislike about being a nurse is that I don’t get to wear cute clothes to work. Besides a couple great form-fitting scrub companies, most things with pretty colors and cute prints end up looking like hefty bags haha. Oh well, it is what it is. Glad you shared these pieces again 🙂

Nothing wrong with restyling or redesigning a piece. I did just that on my blog post today. I think it shows creativity you’re housing inside your mind and closet. Anyone can put on free clothing that was shipped to them by a designer. Sure, you could wear something new everyday. But where’s the thought process in that? Where’s the well trained eye. You look too cute. Love the mix of texture and styles. Good job.
