Like to keep up with the trends? Wondering what jeans are in style for 2022? Lately jean trends have been changing a lot and quickly! Personally I love having lots of options in my closet and have been having fun experimenting with a variety of different styles, but I know it can be a lot to keep up with. Today I thought I would break it down and share what jeans are in style for 2022. You can also head to my reel to see all of these looks in video!
**I do want to say I think every woman should wear what they feel best in regardless of what is trending. Every body is different! I personally love fashion and love trying out trends!
The Skinny
First up, I thought I would alleviate everyone’s nerves and say, “Yes, you can still wear your skinny jeans!” They are still in style, and I personally hope they always will be in style! My all time favorite pair is from Abercrombie, and I have them in several washes. They are true to size though if in between I would go up.
The Wide Leg
Wide leg jeans are having a moment! You can read more on this post, but I personally am LOVING them! I do think you have to find the right pair for you and your body shape. I personally think a higher waisted pair is the way to go. Remember, high rise varies by inseam depending on your height!! A high rise on someone 5’3 would be a mid rise on me. I’m linking some good options below. The exact pair I am wearing was a major splurge purchased with my Shopbop credit, but I really love them!!
The Flare or Bootcut Jeans
Flare and bootcut jeans are in style for 2022 everyone! This time around people are wearing them mostly with sneakers or a chunky boot though. I actually love flare jeans and find them really flattering! My best friend is significantly shorter than me and was lamenting this, but truly, I think these elongate your leg no matter your height! I found a really fun pair at Forever21 recently though they are selling out quickly! I am linking some great options for you below.
The Straight Leg Jean
Last but not least are straight leg jeans! You all have seen these over and over on the blog, and they are here to stay. I LOVE my Abercrombie pair and have them in several washes. I wear the tall length! The first, regular denim pair is trimmed at the bottom a tiny bit giving it a raw hem. The black pair is the tall as well and not trimmed at all. I’ve also written several posts with tips on how to style them. I am linking them below in case you might find them helpful!

Of note are “boyfriend jeans,” “mom jeans,” and “dad jeans.” Honestly I kind of lump all of these together in a similar category with a straight leg jeans. Boyfriend jeans tend to just be a looser version of a straight leg jean. Mom jeans tend to be a high rise, relaxed fit known for making your bottom appear flatter and longer, ha! Dad jeans sit higher on the waist than the typical cut of jeans. The jeans are relaxed through the thigh and tapered and loose from the knee down. Again, these are all pretty similar, and I tend to categorize them all as a high rise straight leg with a varying degree of looseness.
Summary – What Jeans are in Style for 2022
So where does that leave us and what jeans are in style for 2022? It seems like most anything goes! Skinny, straight, bootcut, wide leg – you name it! Wear what you love but have some fun with different styles. Try mixing it up with a fun, trendy sneaker or a lug sole Chelsea boot to make it modern!

Such a fun post, Amy Ann! I like to have lots of denim options for every mood! I am currently loving the high waisted flared leg denim but I think that style will be more suitable for me in the spring when the ground isnβt covered in ice and snow. I canβt wear heels this time of year and the longer style of flared denim drags on the ground without heels. Then the cuffs get all wet and muddy. But, I am wearing a very similar outfit today to your flared denim one. I paired them with a cute chunky colorful sweater and lug sole boots. I am trying to get outside to photograph it today but it is just so cold out there!
