Straight leg jeans are majorly trending lately! I’ve shared my thoughts on them as well as some favorites in this post. I recently tried the Abercrombie pair so many people rave about. I had ordered them before and not loved them. This time I tried the long in the smaller size and realized something I always knew to be true. When it comes to jeans, it’s all about finding the right fit. Today I thought I would share 6 straight leg jean outfit ideas. These are general guidelines you can follow when you are wondering how to wear straight leg jeans in your own closet.
How to Wear Straight Leg Jeans
First, you want to find the right pair for YOU and your body. As I mentioned above, it is all about finding the right fit. At 5’10, I need a longer inseam than most. As a general guideline, I find straight leg jeans to be the most flattering when they hit just about 2 inches above the ankle bone. This makes them look best not only with ankle boots but all shoes. You don’t want them to hit mid-calf and cut you off at an unflattering area. I had ordered the regular length in this particular jean, and they were a wider cut hitting at mid-calf. It just was not a good look. I ordered the long, and they were actually a bit too long. I simply cut them leaving a raw him. Now I’m obsessed (also available in non-distressed)!! My other favorites Madewell’s perfect vintage jean and Loft’s straight leg options.
6 Straight Leg Jean Outfit Ideas
#1 Pair Your Straight Leg Jeans with a Layer + Boots
In the cooler fall and winter months, adding a layer of a blazer, cardigan, or a jacket of some sort with a boot is a great idea! You’ll want a thinner layer underneath your outer layer to avoid bulk whether it is a tissue style t-shirt, a fitted tee, a cami, a pretty blouse, etc. I have an in depth post here about how to wear straight leg jeans with boots. Though others might disagree, I think it looks best when boots come close to the hem of your jeans not leaving a lot of extra skin showing.
#2 Front Tuck Your Favorite Fall Sweater with Boots
I love picking a sweater and keeping your outfit simple. I do suggest a front tuck with this look so that your waist is not lost. With straight leg jeans being wider all the way down your leg, you do want to keep a visual narrowing at your waist.
#3 Do a Full Tuck with a Favorite Blouse
When considering how to wear straight leg jeans, I think doing a full tuck with a pretty blouse like my red one is probably my favorite. You can do a boot, a fall mule, or a dressy sandal for date night to mix this look up. You could also add a blazer over this look too and make it more like #1.
#4 Pick a Blouse with a Built in Waist
As I mentioned in number 3, the important thing with straight leg jeans outfits is keeping your visual waist. Picking a peplum or wrap style blouse that already has a build in waist can be a great option for those of you who may not want to do a full tuck. I absolutely love this peplum top I shared recently with skinny jeans here. It looks just as cute with straight leg jeans and mules!
#5 Tuck in a Dressy T-Shirt for a Dressy Casual Look
Look five of 6 straight leg jean outfit ideas is one my favorites for everyday life. I love adding a dressy style t-shirt with sneakers and straight leg jeans for a look that feels way more put together than it actually is in real life! My ruffle sleeve t-shirt tucked fully into my jeans with casual, non-athletic sneakers like my $36 pair makes this look come together seamlessly. I can still chase my 1 year old too!
#6 Front Tuck a Casual T-Shirt
Last but not least, you can front tuck a casual t-shirt. Graphic t-shirts like my Anine Bing one are majorly trending right now making this an easy and fun option all year round.
