First Trimester Outfit Ideas – How to Hide Your Bump

February 19, 2020

Now that I am officially out of my first trimester, I thought it might be fun to round up some first trimester outfit ideas. To be honest, I find dressing from the start of pregnancy until you actually start looking pregnant the hardest. I have basically feel like it looks like I have eaten too much. It’s complicated by the fact you haven’t shared more broadly, so you can’t explain that food baby yet. 😉 Tips on how to hide your bump and look cute below!

Loose Blouse

Honestly, wearing a loose longer length blouse is probably the best and easiest way to hide a growing bump. A peplum or ruffle hem can be especially beneficial as they naturally float away. You can find the whole post for these looks here and here.

An A-Line or Straight Dress

I loved this loose, straight sweater dress with the addition of a scarf to easily hide my stomach area.

Straight Leg or Boyfriend Jeans

Long after my skinny jeans felt constricting, I could wear my higher waisted straight leg jeans. Since they have some stretch and aren’t as fitted by nature they worked well! Shop it all here.

Empire Waisted Dresses

Thank goodness for empire waisted dresses! I have worn several elastic waisted dresses that hit just above my bump to hide it perfectly. Bonus points for a layer over them like a vest to conceal even more.

Leggings + Long Top

I mean, praise the Lord for leggings all the time but especially while pregnant! I have been wearing them sooo much as evidenced by the photos below.

Chunky Sweater

Since it is winter, I have been able to wear some chunk sweaters. If you are in your first trimester in spring/summer, consider a boho top the equivalent.

Tie Something Above Your Bump

I was able to tie my jean jacket right above where my bump started sticking out. The extra material easily covered it for me. More on the full post.

You’re always so cute Amy – bump or no bump. In fact, the bump is absolutely precious! And I know you know that. The initial bump is awkward though. not big enough to look preggie or wear full on maternity. It’s amazing how much I remember since I haven’t been pregnant in 10 years!

You really did a good job with these Amy Ann. I remember my mom telling me when she was pregnant with me that it wasn’t appropriate to show it at all, so you HAD to hide it.

I love all of your outfits and these are great tips! You look fabulous in that blue floral dress. I was pregnant during the winter with my son so chunky sweaters and leggings were my go to! It covered the bump and cozy at the same time.

All of these are so good but I think my favorite is the last photo with your denim jacket at the waist – I love how taupe booties look with black jeans! Can’t wait to see more of your maternity style!
