How to Wear Statement Earrings

March 20, 2019

I have a new look to share with you today. I love this fun red top paired with these adorable $12.99 earrings, so I thought today’s look would be the perfect chance to talk about how to wear statement earrings. Apparently some of you have noticed that they are without a doubt my favorite type of jewelry to wear because I have gotten a few questions about how to style them. πŸ™‚ What can I say, my addition is real! In my opinion statement earrings are the easiest type of jewelry to wear. They are definitely my go-to at least! We often over think how to style them. Read on for a few easy tips and in no time you’ll be a styling pro too!

post about how to wear statement earrings with 4 different styling options and examples on each, where to buy statement earrings, styling statement earrings

1. Pick Up a Color From Your Pattern

When you have on a patterned piece like a maxi dress or top, a great way to wear a statement earring is to pick up a color from that pattern and match it. For example, my dress below has a lot of colors (see full post here). I have a gorgeous pair of turquoise earrings that beautifully matched the blues/greens in the floral pattern, so I chose to wear them. They complimented the dress so well without contrasting.

  • Do pick a color from your pattern when you want to add something to your look. This is the perfect way to enhance your outfit!

2. Go Matchy-Matchy

When you have a patterned look, another fun option it to go matchy-matchy. You can never go wrong with this one. In my example below, I am wearing a pink and white striped shirt, so I chose to pick my equally bright pink earrings. The overall look is fun and fresh. See full post here. Similarly, my red plaid shirt is complimented well by my red tassel earrings (on sale for under $10!!)

  • Do go matchy-matchy when you have a print with mostly one color (like my stripes or plaid below) and add a similar colored earring. It will be a fun pairing!

3. Pick a Bold Contrast

When you are wearing a solid color shirt, it’s really fun to pick a bold contrast as a statement earring. This is probably the easiest way to style a statement earring, so if you are new or unsure, start here! See full post of the chambray shirt here from my example below. I don’t have a great earring example here, but this is a great way to pick even a fun shaped earring like a heart. Statement shaped earrings are all over right now and can be such a fun addition to a more plain look.

  • Do pick a bold contrast when your outfit is otherwise plain and needs something to spice it up. Do pick a bold contrast when you just want to make a statement. That’s the fun of it!

My red top and white jeans are a new outfit on the blog, so I wanted to be sure and share links to everything. You can shop it all by clicking the items below.

4. Go Neutral

I think it often gets overlooked, but a statement earring can still be neutral. In fact, my most worn statement earrings are neutral. I have a gold, silver, and white pair that I wear a ton! I still consider them “statement” earrings because they are larger and my more focal piece of jewelry. When in doubt, pick one of these.

  • Do opt for a neutral statement earring when your outfit is kind of “busy” (think bold prints), you don’t have the right match according to an option above, or you just prefer to wear a neutral and keep things a bit more toned down. This is where your preferences comes into play.

Where to Buy Statement Earrings

Without a doubt, most of my earring collection is from two places, Kendra Scott and BaubleBar/BaubleBar for Target line called SugarFix (all $12.99). I was actually just browsing Shopbop and noticed they have an amazing selection of statement earrings. One of the things I like about them is that they have lines I love (like BaubleBar), and I also discover new ones I wouldn’t have otherwise found. I partially liked the line Deepa Gurnani. Have you ever heard of it? Some really fun pieces!

I think most of statement earrings I own would be more on the side of neutral, but I suppose it is a fun way to add an unexpected pop of color. I just love your red blouse with the turquoise earrings.

How funny because that’s exactly one thing I picked for the spring trends post today. I have been loving them, and my favorite is as a contrast color. Not that I wear them that way a ton, but I love the look!! I’m going to have to do it more because it’s such a wonderful way to wear them.

You do have some amazing earrings. I usually skip earrings because you can never see them under my hair. Maybe I need to go bigger! I love the teal earrings with that gorgeous red eyelet blouse.
