I’m back today with the second post in my mini casual capsule wardrobe series! If you missed my first post on Wednesday, you can read it here. I introduced my mini casual capsule wardrobe, the pieces in it, and what I will be sharing in the coming posts. I choose 13 pieces to mix and match and share a total of 10 outfits with you all. Of those 13 pieces, four of them are tops.
You know I had to pick a chambray as one of them! They are truly the ultimate wardrobe chameleon and staple. My exact one is this top from Old Navy. At $27 full price and often on sale, you cannot beat the cost per wear. It’s currently on sale for under $20!! Today I will be sharing 4 ways to wear a chambray shirt and the next three looks in my capsule wardrobe (one of them was on Wednesday’s post so you’ve already seen it).
Mini Casual Capsule Wardrobe – 4 Ways to Wear a Chambray Shirt
Look #1 – Chambray Shirt as an Outer Layer
A chambray top makes a great lighter, outer layer over any t-shirt. I think we often forget this as an option and reach for our actual jackets. When we do this, we loose so much versatility from our closets! I love to style flannels, chambray shirts, long dusters, and really any button up this way to truly maximize my closet. I loved the all white look as my base, but really you could have done regular jeans here too. As I mentioned in my first post, I stopped at 10 outfits for fear of boring you all, but I could have continued to mix and match and created many more. My favorite white jeans are on sale for under $25 right now!
Look #2 – Chambray Shirt Tied at Waist
Similar to look one, wearing a chambray shirt tied at your waist is another way to wear it in a non-traditional sense. But doesn’t this outfit look better with it added than if I just worn the plain shirt and jeans? It defines my waist and adds visual appeal. The great part about using a chambray shirt as opposed to a jean jacket for this is it is way less bulky which translates to being more flattering.
Look #3 – Chambray and White Jeans
Styled alone, a chambray top looks great with white jeans, black jeans, or olive colored jeans. It is really fun to pick a non-blue denim to pair with the blue jean shirt. You don’t even need a jacket, but I could have done a second look with this by adding my utility jacket that is also part of my capsule. The possibilities are endless when you pick great basics!
Look #4 – Double Denim
Always the classic – double denim!! My main tip when doing double denim is to make sure your two denim colors are just different enough that it doesn’t look like you are one blob of jean. You want enough visual separation of color that you can tell your top from your bottom. Shop my jeans here.
