Three Reasons You Need A Vest

October 12, 2016

I don’t want to be pushy or anything, but I feel like we should talk about three reasons you need a vest. Vests have been saving my life lately.

Three Reasons You Need a Vest

  1. In early fall when heavier layers aren’t quite appropriate, vests are the perfect piece to add without being too warm.
  2. They are flattering! Vests add definition and cover any areas you might be self-conscious about. This is the real reason they are saving my life. I’ve never been one to wear anything super fitted, but fitted items do flatter a bump. Having a vest allows me to wear a said item (be it a top or dress) and still feel covered. As my body changes (errr, grows), sometimes it’s nice to have a security blanket layer.
  3. Vests add interest to any look. You know that feeling when your outfit just needs a little something else? A vest is the perfect solution.

Today I am styling my trench vest I’ve had since last fall with the prettiest layered nursing/maternity top from Seraphine. If you’re a mom to be or new mom, you’ve got to check them out. This top has snaps on the shoulders to make it nursing friendly for post-baby too. Win! I loved the monochrome grey with the tan accents. You can see other ways I have styled this same vest with a dress here and here. One of my other favorite vests is a suede one I snagged last year as well. I’ll actually be posting a look with it on Friday (did you see my Instagram sneak peek?). I love how it adds texture. You can see other ways I have styled it here and here. I’m linking a bunch of great vest options at all price points below. Go forth and layer!

Also, the Shopbop sale is on! It’s one of my favorites of the year, and I’ll be sharing a special post with more info soon. Everything is 25% off with the code MAINEVENT16 or 30% off if you spend $500 or more. If you have been debating that nice bag or shoes, now is the time! I just ordered my favorite tunic in a second color and a pair of velvet pumps! I have been wanting something velvet forever.

It never occurred to me that vests can be flattering…I always thought they might be too bulky or not figure flattering at all. You look fabulous in this trench-style vest!

I agree that vests are flattering! I have some shirts that are tighter and I love that I can add a vest and you mainly just see the sleeves and a little of the front. They are also great to change up a look and I love the added warmth they add this time of year. That layered top looks great under your vest!
