I’m loving the 70s style that is cropping up in fashion lately. Jean skirts, bell bottoms, platforms, off the shoulder tops – bring it on. I first showed you this jean skirt a couple weeks ago paired with stripes and heels (here). This skirt is only $12. I mean, you just cannot beat that. These a-line button front skirts are a big trend right now. I won’t lie, I want the white denim version and the suede version. Shein has them at such great prices compared to some I have seen which makes you feel like you can justify trying the trend. Today I am mixing it up with this amazing and affordable embroidered floral off the shoulder top from Lookbook (same company as my blush top from last week) and these awesome gladiator sandals. I love these because they are not low ankle or full knee-high. They are the midi of gladiator sandals if you will. I ordered them from Choies. If you’re considering them, I usually wear an 8.5 or 9 and went with the 9. They are a perfect fit.
Lately I have been struggling with social media. I am smart enough to know I shouldn’t compare my everyday with everyone else’s highlight reel. That adage has gotten enough airtime to be familiar, but it’s easier said than done. Isn’t it? I often feel like everyone is living cooler lives than me, and when I finally do something cool, I can’t even get the right angle on the shot to share. Anyone else? In the name of transparency, in case you’re comparing to my highlight reel, my life is pretty ordinary. I hate that I have been tempted to forget that my ordinary isn’t also amazing. Because the truth is my ordinary is awesome. I love my husband. I have stellar friends and family. I’ll tell you, infertility treatment hasn’t been a walk in the park though, and I haven’t even been going through the big guns like IVF. If that’s you, hats off. You have a friend here. It’s hard to highlight reel menopause at 29: hot flashes, and all the emotional and physical side effects that come with changes in hormones. There have been times it has caused me to question my faith. Now that I am on the other side of that feeling, I am thankful to say God is still faithful, and I am stronger because of it. I guess I just share this to say, social media is tough. And I’ve been having a tough time with it. So when I share outfit photos and coffee shop pictures, there is more to the story. There always is. I hope you know that.

First off, great top! Looks awesome on you.
Secondly, thank you for sharing your thoughts on social media. As a new blogger trying to build an audience, it’s especially easy for me to compare my life to other fashion bloggers. I have to remind myself that being truthful and authentic is the most important thing. I believe you do a great job at doing that – keep it up!

Oh Amy–I totally feel you over the woes of social media! It really is hard to not compare yourself to other people’s lives, especially when their lives look so Instagram perfect! Cheers to you and your awesomely ordinary life π Don’t ever feel like you’re not cool or awesome or beautiful because you’re all those things and more! π

I TOTALLY GET YOU! Recently when I felt like I was actually doing cool things, I didn’t even capture it on social media. I ignored it because I didn’t want to have to deal with it. Honestly, I am happier not having to attend to social media 24/7. I use it when I feel like it and I believe those who follow me or are friends with me will be there and always be no matter what! I love this outfit!
Thank you for being real Amy and for sharing your life with us. I just love your honesty and real life photos on IG. You are amazing and lovely!

First off, this look is stunning on you! You pull off the 70’s vibe perfectly! Secondly, I totally know the feeling regarding social media. I feel the same way. It’s easier said than done not to compare yourself to others, that’s for sure.

It is easier said than done for sure and sometimes I do a better job at it than other times. Thanks for your comment!
I’m so loving this boho chic look! Gorgeous top and such a fun skirt.
How amazing is tis skirt on you?! I love your styling too, this would make for such a fun date night look.

You do the 70’s so well – I love this whole look! Social media is tough – it is hard not to compare yourself to everyone else – but you have a great mindset! Just know that you aren’t the only one who struggles with it! xoxoxoxo Danielle

Thanks girl! I appreciate your comment. I think we are all in the same boat when it comes to social media.
great look! Love that skirt! Totally agree with your thoughts on social media.I think almost everyone has moments where they compare themselves to others. I admit there are a few people I had to just unfollow because their feed was provoking unhealthy feelings. Like you said you just have to remember that no matter how amazing someone’s life looks that no ones life is perfect! Thanks for always keeping it real, girl! You’re the best!
Thanks Lindsey! I love your blog for the same reason. It’s nice to know the real you. π I think I may need to unfollow some of the bigger bloggers who make me feel less about myself.
This rings true with me because I constantly struggle with comparing my life to lives I see on social media. It sounds like you have a healthy attitude about it though and that’s important. And $12 for a skirt, sign me up! Love your outfit, you are such a babe, Amy!

Thanks Samantha! I think it is something we all struggle with. I appreciate your response!
That top is super cute!

First I’ll talk about your outfit . That top is gorgeous and looks great on you. You are so right about that skirt style! I’m starting to see it everywhere and wondering if I will cave even though I don’t usually favor many skirts. I have a lot of thoughts on the social media subject as well but I’m probably better off sharing them with you in a real-life coffee date setting rather than a public forum. π I’m so glad to have made your acquaintance through blogging and hope you will find a happy place for yourself on social media and you’ll continue to have the support you need through your fertility struggles!

Oh that we could have a real life coffee date! I would just love that so much. I’m so happy to have made your acquaintance too Gina. You are just a real delight. π
I’m loving my skirt like this! I wish mine had been $12… and socially media wears on me too. There is so much precious to have the perfect shot, and most days I’m at home with a baby and not trekking through Iceland with my professional photographer. Just know that you’re doing a great job! xx

Trekking through Iceland… LOL. That made me laugh. I have loved the responses to this post because I think we all feel the same way. We are all comparing to each other and all feeling like we don’t measure up when we do.
The truth in this post is so relatable. I think as bloggers we all compare ourselves to others and then wonder why we cannot measure up in some way. For every coffee shop pic, selfie, etc there are probably about 150 bad pictures (no lies!). Your life sounds incredibly beautiful and blessed and you have so many people who adore your fashion & blog on a daily basis. While we all feel these struggles, sometimes appreciating the beauty in our own lives is key, but I think you have already done that π Also, I love this outfit! This skirt is seriously just gorgeous on you! I tried a similar one on recently but it just was not happening!

Thanks Denise! It’s true, I think we all feel the same way. It’s nice to remember that life is good and to work on enjoying it as it is instead of comparing.
I love this post — obviously for the outfit, but for the truth as well. As much as I love blogging and getting inspired by other blogger’s feeds, I always have to remind myself that it is all carefully curated bits of their lives. It’s fun to play along, but don’t beat yourself up about it. Your highlight reel is still great! And even the not so highlighted things you’re going through, you managing in the best way you can, looking dang good doing it.
Thank you so much Audrey. I really appreciate your comment. It’s been so fun to connect with you.
Those sandals are UNREAL! Seriously they are perfect and look so expensive. Also that button up denim skirt, you are rocking it lady!

You look SO cute! I am just obsessed with all of your outfits lately. I’ve realized that 70’s style is definitely my thing. I loved it a few years ago and strayed away trying to be more preppy and sophisticated, but now I’ve realized I just need to stick with what I love! And I would wear every single piece here (and just may buy the skirt and top ;)).
As for social media… It’s so discouraging to me sometimes as well. Some days I get WAY too caught up on why I have thousands less followers than other bloggers. And I know it’s not really that important, but sometimes I can’t help but feel it’s because I don’t have amazing views to show off or I’m not at home all day to set up cute shots. It’s frustrating, but I love social media as well. I think like you said, you just have to remember how amazing your own life is, even if it seems boring to others. I’ve stopped worrying about posting what others will like and have just started posting what I love, and it’s been very freeing.

Yes for 70s style! My style just isn’t very preppy. I tend to like a little more edgy muted looks or casual ones like this. I totally feel the same way. I’ve caught myself being way to caught up in it lately wondering why I don’t have as many followers as others too. It’s hard! I have to keep reminding myself that my life is incredible and social media is not what matters. It is NOT why I started blogging and that is not consistent with my faith. Have a good week and thanks for the comment!
You look great in this outfit! I just ordered the suede version from the Nordstrom sale, and I can’t wait to get it! I know what you mean about the social media issues, but if it makes you feel better, the feeds that mirror my everyday life are actually my favorites. Just keep at it!
