I’m loving the 70s style that is cropping up in fashion lately. Jean skirts, bell bottoms, platforms, off the shoulder tops – bring it on. I first showed you this jean skirt a couple weeks ago paired with stripes and heels (here). This skirt is only $12. I mean, you just cannot beat that. These a-line button front skirts are a big trend right now. I won’t lie, I want the white denim version and the suede version. Shein has them at such great prices compared to some I have seen which makes you feel like you can justify trying the trend. Today I am mixing it up with this amazing and affordable embroidered floral off the shoulder top from Lookbook (same company as my blush top from last week) and these awesome gladiator sandals. I love these because they are not low ankle or full knee-high. They are the midi of gladiator sandals if you will. I ordered them from Choies. If you’re considering them, I usually wear an 8.5 or 9 and went with the 9. They are a perfect fit.
Lately I have been struggling with social media. I am smart enough to know I shouldn’t compare my everyday with everyone else’s highlight reel. That adage has gotten enough airtime to be familiar, but it’s easier said than done. Isn’t it? I often feel like everyone is living cooler lives than me, and when I finally do something cool, I can’t even get the right angle on the shot to share. Anyone else? In the name of transparency, in case you’re comparing to my highlight reel, my life is pretty ordinary. I hate that I have been tempted to forget that my ordinary isn’t also amazing. Because the truth is my ordinary is awesome. I love my husband. I have stellar friends and family. I’ll tell you, infertility treatment hasn’t been a walk in the park though, and I haven’t even been going through the big guns like IVF. If that’s you, hats off. You have a friend here. It’s hard to highlight reel menopause at 29: hot flashes, and all the emotional and physical side effects that come with changes in hormones. There have been times it has caused me to question my faith. Now that I am on the other side of that feeling, I am thankful to say God is still faithful, and I am stronger because of it. I guess I just share this to say, social media is tough. And I’ve been having a tough time with it. So when I share outfit photos and coffee shop pictures, there is more to the story. There always is. I hope you know that.

I love this look on you! I think your transparency is what really makes you so amazing! It’s tough sometimes looking at social media and feeling like our ordinary lives aren’t that great, but they are!

I love your look, but I am totally right there with you when it comes to the ‘cool life.’ I love my life, don’t get me wrong, but I am not the best at photographing it for social media. Sometimes I just like to enjoy the weekend, but then I realize I haven’t posted & stress out about that….ugh, struggles of blogging…happy to know we aren’t alone…

Not only are you totally rocking the 70s look (desperately wanting a denim mini now) but this post really resonates with me. From time to time I find myself getting caught up in it all and have to step back and put the phone down and just enjoy a day with Matt. When I’m not trying to “prove” how great my life is, it’s actually pretty great!

Oh sweet friend, well I love your outfit but love your honesty & openness even more! I think everyone can relate, at least a little in some way. You are a beautiful & strong women. I sure admire you. I have a love hate relationship with social media. It’s fun, I love pictures & instagram, but I also feel like more often than not social media causes bad or negative feelings for people, and it just shouldn’t be that way. We spend so much time on it then let those feelings carry over throughout our day- Comparisons, awful news stories, negativity & wasted time. I’ve been struggling a little lately too, I sometimes consider a full on social media cleanse haha. I know I need to switch my focus a little 🙂
I started blogging thinking it was going to be this awesome outlet for creativity, showing just my ordinary life, too. Now I find that my ordinary is so far less glam that others and I’ve come to find that I’m completely okay with that. So I don’t travel as much as some other people or have as many likes–I’m still able to do what I enjoy and still love every moment of it. I love reading your posts and your transparency with everyday struggles. I love that you’re happy with your normal because that definitely makes you more relatable! Keep up the great posts and these adorable outfits!

It’s tough, because there’s definitely a veil we all use on social- it’s a polished up version of real life. And while that’s okay, it can definitely get tough when you start feeling yourself compare what you have/what you’re doing. But we’re all in the same boat- and you’re brave enough to point it out!
I’m so proud of you for sharing your story about infertility treatments- it’s real + raw, and so honest. You’re a badass, AA. Don’t forget it.
And how 70s Babe Mode are you here?! Love this look- especially that super cute skirt!

I agree with you that social media plays a big part of our no longer ordinary lives. 🙂
People thought that everything is perfect but the truth is it isn’t.
Well, i’m hoping for the best on you.
I love this outfit so much– one of the best from you.
God bless 🙂

You look gorgeous! I love this look on you. And social media really is tough — bloggers set a certain standard and sometimes it’s hard to keep up — with someone else’s and with the one you set for yourself! It is definitely easy to forget how great our lives are. Thanks for the reminder 🙂

First things first…you look so beautiful. love the resurgence of the ’70s more than any other decade so far. the price on that skirt? amazing!
Second…regarding your comment on social media and the whole comparing lifestyles to what we see filtered online. where do I begin? I totally relate and totally agree with you. It’s easy to forget what we do have and how lucky we are to have what we have…no matter how “ordinary” it might seem in comparison. In the early days of social media, I even felt stressed about “keeping up.” I had to step back and realize, there is no competition. My life can’t be quantified with another person’s. Sometimes, I still feel it and I have to reel myself back. But, it’s reassuring to know that every person is special in his/her own way.
Lastly, thanks for sharing such a personal detail about infertility. My heart goes to you since I know people who also struggle and I cannot imagine how you and others must feel. Things do work themselves out…even if we can’t understand why or how just yet. Perhaps things work out in a way we didn’t imagine them to be but hopefully you will get to where you need to be as well. xoxo
What a beautiful outfit! And I totally feel you… looking at other people’s instagram feed (in particular), it sounds like all glam and glitz. But I try to stick to what I know best – just posting what I love. If anyone appreciates it, then I appreciate them too! If not, it’s not going to be the end of our blogging careers. But thanks for being candid, it’s hard for me to imagine someone already as successful as you are with your blog having the same issues 🙂
