No Buy January

December 30, 2020

I’m really excited about something new I plan on doing this month – a no buy January! I had been considering this for some time, and when I took a poll asking your opinion on Instagram it was very clear this resonated with you all too. I will spend the whole month without buying a single clothing item. Nothing new will be on the blog except for a upcoming preexisting partnership I am very excited about.

I'm really excited about something new I plan on doing this month - a no buy January! I had been considering this for some time, and when I took a poll asking your opinion on Instagram it was very clear this resonated with you all too. I will spend the whole month without buying a single clothing item.

So Why a No Buy January?

  • During COVID I have not been getting our of the house nearly as much as LBC (life before COVID). I basically take Ivy Jean to and from school plus the occasional doctors appointment. When the weather was nice we were going to church outside which I hope to pick back up anytime it is possible. We sometimes pick up dinner and eat outside or see our family, but otherwise we are pretty much at home. I just cannot justify spending money on clothing as much. You may or may not have noticed, but I have already been recycling pieces a lot here on the blog and spending less (hello capsule wardrobe!).
  • After Christmas many of us, ourselves included, have spent a lot of money on gifts and are trying to restrict spending.
  • Being a stay at home mom with a five month old, I don’t wear a ton of fancy things at this stage of life anyway.
I love this colorblock striped cardigan paired with a striped shirt and black jeans! Click this post to see how I am remixing it as part of my no buy January.

What Can You Expect From Me?

So what will things look like on the blog? Well I hope not too different. I hope to recycle my clothing and keep things fresh for you. I will continue to share new and fun outfits with existing pieces in my wardrobe while also giving you a look at how I have shared those same pieces in the past. I hope this will give you ideas on how to restyle your own closet and get creative! I’m going to try to style things that are still in stock and available when possible. When I cannot, I will link similar items.

This versatile cardigan is perfect for a no buy January! It is so easy to mix and match.

Cardigan Take Two

I first shared this cardigan here styled with a white t-shirt and regular jeans back in October at the pumpkin patch here (seen below). I really love it! I’ve worn it a lot both over leggings, with jeans, and on Instagram over a fitted dress with boots during a story try on. The colors actually make it really versatile, and it’s super affordable! I loved pairing it with black jeans and a striped top for a little pattern. The cognac boots and bag pick up that color in the cardigan so well. I am linking my exact cardigan, jeans, and boots. My exact t-shirt is older, but I found some very similar options here and here.

Lovely idea! I am doing something similar with my craft supplies – taking time this month to pick supplies out of my stash, and use them up, and I may just continue into next too!

I love this outfit, the colours are beautiful! I should challenge myself to a month or two without buying any clothes – it would certainly please my husband! Happy New Year!

It’s such a great time of year to do a no-buy month! I am definitely hoping to restrict spending this month too!

I did a no-spend month before and it was really eye-opening! I think you will love doing it!

This is a great post! And people should do this in general and only buy pieces that you can get a lot of use out of more than once that way the value of it is worth it 🙂 great style especially the cardigan. I did a no-buy January this year and highly recommend it—not only did I save money, but I rediscovered a bunch of neglected items in my closet. Can’t wait to hear your experience with it!

I love this neutral outfit, and I can’t wait to see how you restyle old pieces! I love seeing bloggers do that.

A no buy January is such a great idea! I’m not going to do January in specific, but I’ll definitely do some months of 2021 without buying anything but food and essentials! Xx

This is awesome–I have actually been on a “no-buy” for the last few months and it feels so good! Love having more of a capsule style wardrobe!

I’d like to do this, too, although I have had to buy a few maternity pieces lately for this growing belly! I’m all about recycling pieces in my wardrobe and sticking to classics I’ll wear for years.

Amy Ann, I love this combination of stripes and color blocking! The colors are so great, too. I am all for a no buy January as well! Although I haven’t been shopping much this year anyway, but I have been enjoying the occasional thrift shop outing. I am having fun mixing newly found second hand items with things already in my closet. Wishing you all the best in 2021!

Have fun with your no buy month! I do a no buy July each month and I did 6 months without fashion shopping a couple years ago – it gets easier with practice, and as you pointed out is so easy to do with covid restrictions as you go out much less!

    Thanks for the link up!
