Nothing new here. You’ve seen this kimono (only $19 with prime shipping!! – scroll to one size) multiple times before on the blog. I styled it with jeans and as a swimsuit coverup here. It’s a favorite Amazon piece. I’ve styled these shorts two times before as well here and here. This tank was first seen here when I talked about how to change up your outfit with accessories. All in all, these are some of my favorite summer pieces. I love to restyle my closet, and I think kimonos are one of the most versatile things I own. Today I wanted to talk about how to wear a kimono with shorts.
I’ve shared my palm print kimono (only $21 with prime shipping!) with my favorite cut off denim shorts at the beach before on the blog here. Recently on the weekend, I also paired the same kimono with an all white ensemble. What I love most about kimonos is that they provide a light (i.e. not hot) layer of coverage in the summer. I don’t know about you, but I don’t always feel 100% confident in shorts. I love having some additional coverage to help me out. Since all the ones I own are under $20, there is no reason not to test it out!
How to Wear a Kimono with Shorts
- If your kimono is patterned as most are, pick a solid colored top to go underneath.
- Since you are layering, it is easiest to pick a sleeveless or short sleeve top to avoid bulk. Plus, you do not want your sleeves underneath to be longer than your kimono sleeves.
- Tuck your top into your shorts or tie it to visually show your waistline and flatter your figure.
