I’ve been seriously loving these pull on shorts! This style of shorts is super popular this summer and for good reason – they are incredibly comfortable and surprisingly flattering! I first showed you my leopard pair on the blog here when I styled them with a simple tank top and flats for a casual day look. I mentioned that I bought the olive pair when they were buy one get one half off which they still are! At only $34 full price, you can buy two pairs for just over $50. Today I thought I would share a few tips on how to style pull on shorts.
How to Style Pull on Shorts
- I recommend buying a pair with an inseam that is long enough to give it a higher rise. You want them to sit a your natural wait – the thinest part of your midsection. All the same facts holds true for shorts being more flattering when they have a higher rise just as it goes for jeans. I laid it all out in my post about why you should stop buying low rise jeans.
- If you buy a higher rise pair, I recommend doing a full tuck with a more fitted top. It doesn’t have to be skintight by an means, just fitted enough to be flattering to tuck into your shorts. In today’s post, I am actually wearing a bodysuit by Free People. I love this particular bodysuit because it looks like a t-shirt and can be worn super casually. I first shared it with you with my denim shorts here. It’s sold out quickly. I found the exact one still available here and here.
- Switch up your shoes and style of top to change if the outfit if casual or dressy. I wore flats and a tank top for a casual look. For this look, I changed to my favorite See by Chloe wedges (shop all espadrilles here) for a dressier date night look. I could have upped the dressy factor even more by changing to a lace camisole or an actual blouse.
There you have it – those are the main things to keep in mind. You might think of this style short like paperbag waist shorts. You can see my post on how to style them here. I share tips on them and multiple styling options as well.

These shorts look so cute on you. I especially love them with the bodysuit. I spend all day Sat a few weeks ago looking for “just the right”bodysuit for my teen. She was being so picky about it, but we finally found one that she liked.
Soooo CUTE! I do think tops look best tucked in with the pull on shorts! Those ruffles…just love!
