How to Get More Wear Out of Your Closet by Layering

November 20, 2017

When I did a quick poll on Instagram, almost 100% of you said you like to see items remixed. I found it really interesting that over 40% of you said you also like exact links as opposed to similar items. I’m doing my best to remix items while the exact pieces are still available. I do this often in real life, but it’s not always as easy to get them blogged in time before they sell out. However, today I am remixing this sweaterย (now on sale!) and this plaid topย (available in multiple colors and super affordable). Both are favorite pieces of mine, have been worn recently, and are still in stock. Win!

Do you remember this sweater shown here with flares and a leopard scarf? And this plaid top worn alone for our pumpkin patch tip? The items look totally different layered and paired with my OTK boots. It is amazing how much more wear you can get out of your closet by simply layering pieces that you have previously only worn alone. I encourage you to think creatively!

How to Get More Wear Out of Your Closet by Layering

  1. Start looking at pieces as multi-season and consider creative layering options. – Sleeveless dresses are really good candidates for this (as seen here).ย Take a sleeveless dress you usually only wear during the summer, add a fitted long sleeve top underneath, tights, and boots, and you have a perfect winter outfit!
  2. As the weather cools, start adding a layer onto tops you’ve worn alone before like I have done today. If your top is long enough, let it hang out the bottom. If not, just tuck it in.
  3. Play with patterns and textures to keep things interesting.

You look great.. I used to love layering and it was only a few days ago when I realized I had stopped doing it some years ago.. I don’t know why. Need to start doing it again!

I love seeing bloggers remix their outfits! I’m good with similar items because they tend to be as close as it can be! Love the layering Amy Ann!

This is a great post, Amy! I definitely feel your pain though about trying to blog items before they sell out…especially hard for me when it’s too warm here to wear a lot of my new stuff and when I finally can it’s no longer available.

Lol readers are funny, it’s almost impossible to remix old pieces and provide exact links. Items sale out so quickly so we have to share similars. Unless you shoot the same item multiple time as soon as you get it. But alas cute outfit as always lady ๐Ÿ™‚
