I really love the color blue. If you asked me my favorite color, I would probably say blue. Mainly because black, white, grey, and tan don’t really seem like acceptable answers. Ha! But…I often shy away from buying blue tops. It’s not because I don’t love the color or think it is flattering. It’s because I am never really sure how to style a blue top. Does anyone else have this dilemma?
That leads me to the topic of today’s post: how to style a blue top. Banana Republic sent me this gorgeous blue sweaterย and the prettiest taupe/blush colored tote. They always have the best, classic pieces.ย It is really my go-to store when I need a chic piece to move my wardrobe from one season to the next or from one level to the next. The tailoring and quality are always on point. The sweater has the prettiest scalloped neck and is a great weight for spring. It gave me all the feels, and I basically needed to wear it as soon as possible. I came up with several styling options and even took to Instagram for your feedback (thank you!).
My main tip on how to style a blue top is to pick a contrasting color on bottom. Whether you pick a skirt or pants, select a non-blue color. The options I considered were a blush midi skirt or white jeans. I think I will wear the blush skirt to work soon, but since I was wearing this on a casual day, I oped for jeans. White trousers would be gorgeous. Black works just as well as I recently didย here. A printed bottom or skirt would also be great. I also think you can wear a blue top with denim. Just pick a pair that isn’t quite the same shade like I did here.
If you are looking for more inspiration, clearly I have a thing for blue tops with white jeans as evidenced by previous posts here, here, and here.

Blue looks sooooo good on you! I like to combine different shades of blue, like a dark blue chino with a light blue top. Or I wear grey with blue that works really well too ๐
Happy Valentines Day!

For some reason, I shy away from blue, too. I am not sure why! I think I struggle with what to pair it with, too. I love your tips and hope you share it with the blush skirt. That scalloped neck line is so pretty and I LOVE the color and size/shape of that bag!
