What to Wear When You Don’t Know What to Wear

January 16, 2017

What to wear when you don’t know what to wear? I think this question is something all of us face from time to time. You know the feeling: standing in your closet staring at your clothes in frustration. As I mentioned in last week’s post, I have been shopping my closet more in this post-baby season of life. I did it during pregnancy too as it was a time when I had a more limited wardrobe. I’ve found myself pondering this question more and more. My answer?

What to Wear When You Don’t Know What to Wear

  1. Start with your favorite pair of jeans.
  2. Pair withย a casual, neutral top – Whether a sweater, tee, or blouse, pick a neutral color or stripe you’ve always loved. One of my favorite ways to do this is to go monochrome like I did today. If you’ve picked black jeans or grey jeans, select a black or grey top. If you’ve picked regular denim, consider a stripe or even a plaid. White denim pairs really well with chambray.
  3. Add an accessory – Opt for either a scarf or a great layer like a moto jacket (my go-to recently).
  4. Finish with your favorite shoe – I almost always pick a pair of ankle booties.

Outfits like these are never complicated but always chic and effortless. Out of all the things I post, these seem to be a reader favorite. Sometimes I think I need to make every outfit something really special and unique. While there is definitely a place for those combinations, the truth is this kind of look resonates with us all.

I love the simplicity of this look. I’ve been shopping my wardrobe more this days as I imposed a shopping ban on myself. It’s amazing to re-discover the things you have had for ages.
