How to Wear the Sneaker Trend

June 27, 2016

I love the sneaker trend. I mean, what woman doesn’t want comfy shoes to be all the rage? Even as a fashion obsessed person, I have wondered how to wear the sneaker trend. Somehow it seems like a cool girl look I cannot quite achieve, so I did some research (aka Pinterest searching). Thankfully KicksUSA gave me the opportunity to test my theories with these awesome floral Nike sneakers. I mean, how cool are they?! I’d been wanting a pair of Adidas, but when I saw these I knew they were the ones. KicksUSA has a great selection (men’s and kid’s included). They are also giving my readers a 10% discount. Just use the code “STRAIGHTASTYLE2016” at checkout. It seems like these never go on sale, so this is a great chance to snag a fun pair to try the trend or a new workout pair. Here are some easy tips on how to wear the sneaker trend.

  1. Don’t over think it. Add sneakers to any outfit without worrying whether or not they “go.” Part of the trend is that people are wearing them with everything. I had to remind myself of this.
  2. The majority of times I have seen sneakers done well, the outfit itself isn’t over the top. Think basic items with the fashionable part being the shoes.
  3. Do the unexpected. My personal favorite way to style sneakers is with a dress or skirt. It’s the opposite pairing of casual and dressy that makes it cool.
  4. The “stylish” sneakers seem to have some white coloring and the more flat, skater look. I’m linking some great options below. Stay away from styling your running sneakers this way, and buy a pair purposely for casual wear.

P.S. This polka dot dress is so perfect for summer and only $22. I love the shoulder tie detail. Also, I grabbed these white sunnies for $5 on a whim, and I think I regret it. Nothing like blog pictures to let you know whether or not you made the right style decision.

I loved the dress + sneakers combo ever since Lily Allen made them popular. I just love how girly and feminine while at the same time comfortable the overall look is. And your sneakers are gorgeous! I’ve been wanting the cherry blossom pair from Nike! 🙂

Great tips. I often see street style photos of women wearing sneakers and wonder how they can pull off such a cool look. I tend to only wear sneakers with jeans when I run errands.

P.S. That floral sneakers are so fun.

Love the sneaker trend but my main issue is how I overthink it. I’m always second guessing myself about “matching” or looking “right”. Which is why I pretty much only style them with jeans bahahaha!
