How to Keep Summer Outfits from Being Boring

June 24, 2016

I loved the colors in this pastel striped dress. I also loved that it gave me an opportunity to wear my pink hat. I love hats for many reasons, but this time it was because it covered up my roots. Ha! Thankfully I just had my appointment. Hats, fun shoes, sunglasses, and a good bag are always my go-to items when I want to keep things interesting. This dress was fun on its own but better with good accessories. My only complaint is that the stripes don’t exactly meet in the front bust seam.

All of this led me to thinking about how to keep summer outfits from being boring. If you are like me, you love winter for all the layering and accessory options. I have found a few easy tweaks keep my summer outfits interesting. Here are a few tips:

  1. Forget beanies, scarves, and gloves – buy a summer hat. Whether a light color like mine or a straw option, they always add interest.
  2. Think statement shoes – lace up shoes are so in right now and always make a statement without adding heat/layers.
  3. Have fun with your sunglasses – I love having a couple different options when it comes to sunglasses. Whether mirrored, round, or a fun color, sunglasses really accent an outfit well. I use Ditto’s Endless Eyewear Program which is like Netflix for sunglasses. It allows me to swap my sunnies anytime I want while saving my wallet. Use code STRAIGHTASTYLE for 10% off.
  4. Mix up your bag – I added this white bag and a pink one to my collection over the spring and have worn them constantly. They are such fun summer pieces with the lighter colors. Straw totes are all the rage lately too and would be a good option.

I love the pattern of that dress! Actually, this is going to sound weird, but my parents had sheets that looked just like that in the early 90’s lol. Love your tips on layer styling for summer! I definitely need to switch out my bag more.
