How to Wear Denim Culottes

February 26, 2016

Did you catch my post on Tuesday? I am on a major denim kick… but I don’t mean your average denim. I am loving all the modern silhouettes as an alternative toย the skinny (which I will always love). You guys know I am a culotte fan (see recent posts here, here, here, here, here, and here), so it only makes sense that I would combine my love for denim and culottes. This pair is Citizens of Humanity via Shopbop, and they could not be more perfect. I really encourage you to try culottes. I have heard from several people that they suit me because I am tall. Here’s the thing, I think they suit everyone and are actually a very flattering cut.

How to wear Denim Culottes:

  1. It’s all about lengthย – You need a pair that hits mid-calf. If they are longer, they do have a tendency to overwhelm shorter frames. Show some ankle! ๐Ÿ˜‰
  2. Opt for a leg that isn’t too wide – This is important especially if you are on the petite side. You don’t want legs so wide they end up looking like a skirt. You do need some definition between legs when standing.
  3. Keep your waist defined – Although I have played with different lengths and fits of tops, when I first started wearing culottes, I was definitely more comfortable balancing the looser bottom with a more fitted top. Consider aย more cropped fit or a slimmer top you can tuck in.
  4. Avoid pleats/zip front – Clearly on a denim pair, you probably won’t avoid a zip front, but my favorite dress pairs are my black and rust colored ones that have a hidden zipper on the side or back. in my opinion, this makes for a cleaner and more flattering line.

I bought my culottes from gap last spring and love mine but canโ€™t wear heels. Iโ€™m glad youโ€™re wearing them because, as you know, they are big

You always wear culottes so well. I have tried them but they do not look one tenth as good on me. You know I am a fan of tassels and bow-tie blouses so I love those pieces. Such an effortless early Spring look. And those are amazing tips. Maybe I should give a culotte trouser (not the denim kind) a try, again.

I am slowly catching up with your beautiful self, too. =)
