Chunky Chelsea boots are all the rage again this season. They come in all forms from a heel to a flat, black to cream, to tan, a platform rubber sole to a slimmer sleeker option. Whatever your choice and whatever you call them, styling them can be a bit tricky. I am here today to break it all down! Let’s talk about how to wear chunky lug sole Chelsea boots!
Style of Chunky Chelsea Boot
First let’s start by narrowing down our boot options! To me the main difference in boots is the height of the boot shaft. This is where the styling gets trickier. I want to focus today on boots that have a shorter boot shaft and thus hit lower on your leg. In my opinion these are a little easier to style. I’ll be sharing two boots in this post: a heeled waterproof pair I have had for two years now and love and a flat black $30 pair. Stay tuned because I have part two of this post coming soon with a taller pair!
Slim Straight Leg Jeans with a More Cropped Length
First up in my list of how to wear chunky lug sole Chelsea boots is to pair them with a slim straight leg jean. Straight leg jeans are all the rage right now, and they make a great pairing with Chelsea boots. Here I am wearing the Madewell Perfect Vintage Jean in both images below. They are a long time favorite of mine and an all around great jean! Remember, in this post we are talking about a shorter boot shaft pair.
- DO let your boot just meet the hem of your jeans
- In my opinion, it is best not to let your jeans bunch up a ton around your boots. This creates an unflattering leg line. You also want to avoid showing a ton of skin between the top of your boot and the bottom of your jeans.
True Straight Leg Jean
Next up is a true straight leg jean. Below I am wearing my Agolde 90s pinch waist jeans. I love how a boot fits perfectly underneath the wider full length of them. The heel looks especially polished with this pairing.
- DO let your boots go underneath your full length straight leg jeans. This is when they come to your ankle at least.
The easiest and perhaps most loved way to wear Chelsea boots is with leggings! We all love leggings and layering up in the fall and winter. I love a classic Chelsea boot to pair with leggings. They look so great with a shacket, chunky sweater, or anything really! This one feels a little more clear cut than jeans. 🙂
Pair with a Dress
One of my favorite ways to pair a Chelsea boot is with a dress. It adds a great edge to an otherwise girly look. I love this fun Madewell dress with my heeled pair of boots for a fall combo.
