Jane Evelyn – 6 Months

Jane Evelyn you are SIX months old! To mark the occasion we made a half cake for your half birthday just like we have done with your sister for the past four years and just like your Gamma did for your auntie and I all our lives. It was so sweet in all senses of the word. Your sister helped me make it which was really fun, and we documented it with a fun reel I shared on Instagram. You are so easy to celebrate with your happy smile and affectionate personality. Janie, you are truly the perfect fit into our family, and your dad and I thank God for the gift of your life.

I also made your dad and sister dress up for family photos. Something I am certain they will thank me for later though they were not too pleased at the time. I think I made up for it with the aforementioned cake though. 😉

At six months you are rolling over both ways, sitting up (much sooner than your sister, presumably so you can keep tabs on her), and you have tried quite a few foods. I’m much more relaxed about quite a few things this time around chief of which is all things related to feeding. You’re getting the good end of deal. You just had your first tooth pop through. I can’t wait for those toothy smiles. You have blessed us with full nights of sleep for about two months now, and I do mean blessed. Hallelujah and amen.

I cannot write this post without mentioning how much you sister LOVES you. She has made up a good morning song which she sings for you every day as soon as you both wake up. “Good morning sisters, we are the best sisters in the whole wide world.” And it is my prayer that the words of that will ring true all the days of your life. She wants to, and does, help with everything related to you. If she is anything like my older sister, that will never stop and you will benefit all your life. She has been so happy to have you as a companion in all things and is quick to include you in her games. She prayed for you as much as your daddy and I did, and I am pretty convinced it may be her prayers God heard the most, earnest as they were.

I saw a quote the other day about motherhood that by the grace of God sums up exactly how I feel and by the grace of God I pray sums up how I hope you and your sister look back and see your childhood. Because my gosh I love you all. As I tell you all the time, being your mother is my favorite. As I have learned more and more about my privilege this year and my eyes have been opened to more and more about our world, I have thought over and over what a distinct privilege it is to be able to be in our home in the midst of a pandemic raising you two beautiful humans alongside your dad.

You know what I want my kids to say about my parenting when they are grown up and gone and maybe raising their own kids?”

She loved it.
