How to Wear Buffalo Plaid – 1 Top 3 Ways
I LOVE Old Navy plaid tops! They have the best flannels (here and here) that come back year after year, and each year I seem to purchase one more to add to my ever growing collection. They are a fall staple for me as seen in my post about 10 ways to wear a flannel.
I recently bought the red and black gingham print in their longer, tunic style top that is more of a cotton than a flannel which is a style I love. Though it is the smaller version, I still consider it buffalo plaid. I thought today I would share some tips on how to wear buffalo plaid. I’ve styled this 1 top 3 ways for you. I honestly think plaid tops are the most versatile thing you can have in your wardrobe!
Look One – Layer a Sweater Over
I love adding a sweater over a flannel or plaid top and letting the collar and hem peek out a bit. I also like to fold my sweater cuff back one and then roll my shirt back over it so you see the shirt there as well. Overall this totally changes the look. Instead of appearing to be wearing a plaid, you look like you are wearing a sweater. However, the outfit is so much more interesting than if you had chosen to wear the sweater alone. I picked to wear a grey sweater and black jeans with this look as I felt the colors worked best with the red and black in the shirt.
Look Two – Top with a Vest
Puffer vests are so easy to add over pretty much anything to totally change up my outfit! I hope you are following along on Instagram and snagged this exact vest when I shared on stories that it was on sale for just $12! I have it in black and pink because I like it that much. Paired over my buffalo plaid top and with black jeans this makes the perfect casual look.
Look Three – Wear Alone with Sneakers & Jacket
Simply add your favorite regular denim, sneakers, and your favorite jacket and head out the door! The best part about these plaid shirts is that they are totally cute all on their own!
