It’s official, this is the maxi dress of my dreams! A long, tiered, striped, maxi dress is flattering and surprisingly versatile too. The top is a halter style with a fun back (see the listing for that – sorry, I didn’t get a pic). It is a wonderful quality dress too. If you caught my Instagram, I wore this to Russ’s mom surprise birthday party when we went back to Alabama. Can you imagine a more perfect party dress? I might wear it for Easter Sunday too. I am undecided on exactly what I will wear…
Eliza J was nice enough to send this to me, and it comes in petite and regular. I am wearing the regular. If you are shorter, I definitely recommend the petite since the regular length is long enough for me at my height. I just paired it with my favorite Tory Burch sandals, but you could easily dress it up with a heel. You could also dress it down further with a jean jacket. Read on for a funny story about this photoshoot.
Funny Photo Story
Though I did share a quick iPhone family snap of it, I knew I had to do this dress justice with a full set of photos. They ended up being some of my favorite we have taken recently because of the pretty spring setting, but I have to tell you the story behind them. I know they look idyllic. However, the scene was anything but…
As many of you know, Russ is my photographer. Bless him! Ivy Jean almost always comes with us unless we can fit in a shoot during his lunch break on a day she is in school. We always try to do that if possible. Not the case on this day.
So… there she is in her stroller right next to him when she unhooks herself for the first time ever, climbs down, and starts running around! The setting for these photos is at a pretty outdoor mall here in Tulsa. Picture a nice restaurant with outdoor seating on one side Starbucks patio seating on the other, i.e. people everywhere. Now, taking photos in public always invites some stares. Add a stroller, an escaped toddler, a crazed mom in a dress chasing her toddler trying to keep her from playing in the fountain, and there were some real funny looks. I was sweating.
Then, to top it all off, a legit photographer type guy saw Russ and wanted to talk cameras. I was near my end and less than politely told him we did not have time to talk cameras while Russ, who is too nice to say the same, embarrassedly finished the shoot. All the while, Ivy Jean was back in her stroller wreaking havoc on my extra earrings which we gave her to look at to try to make it through. It’s a glamorous life you all. Hope you got a laugh!

This dress is gorgeous. I love the halter style top and the tassel detail too. I think it would be a great dress for Easter.
Your photoshoot story made me laugh, as bloggers we already know how awkward shooting in public can be. But add a runaway toddler, I can only imagine how crazy it all looked! Thanks for the laugh 🙂

Amy Ann, I love this dress on you!!! Just darling. I’m not sure I could pull it off at my age, but I certainly love the look.
How do you take pictures in the sun without squinting? I notice you have light colored eyes, like I do. Usually those of us with light colored eyes are very light sensitive. Do you have a trick? Or are you not really facing the sun? Just curious! Your pictures are great!!
Ha ha ha, oh we could write books about blogger life can’t we. You look lovely!
WOW, this is the most perfect dress and it looks amazing on you! Striped maxi with tassels? YES PLEASE!

That’s a really nice romantic summer dress for a young woman like you. You look stunning in it! The stripes with the tiered skirt are the right combination of preppy and girly that make it look very feminine.
Such a cute maxi dress!

Oh my gosh, that story is too funny (even though it wasn’t at the time I’m sure!) That’s the blogger real life BTS for ya! I always hate shooting near crowds, too. You’d never know from these photos that you were frazzled – just calm and gorgeous!

What a hilariously horrible story. You poor thing. I’m mortified enough when Jeremy wants me to pose with people around, but I can’t imagine all the other factors from your story. It’s true though, this is the most perfect dress and the pictures are just idyllic! It was worth it in the end!

Oh, mom life combined with blogger life always makes for some crazy stories! We often have the kids with us for photo shoots, too. M kids are a bit older, but they always want in on the action, so we have to humor them first, take some photos of them with mommy, and then they will go play in the background while we finish the photo shoot! I guess we all do what needs to be done! Great story and an even greater dress. So beautiful and the photos are amazing! You can’t even tell what went on behind the scenes. You look composed as ever, but I am all too familiar with the anxiety you were probably feeling!
