What to Wear If You Don’t Like Shorts

June 17, 2020

I’ve never been a huge fan of shorts. Part of it is that I am tall and have trouble finding the right pair. Part of it is that I just feel more comfortable in something else. If you are like me and looking for an alternative to wearing shorts, read on for what to wear if you don’t like shorts.

Are shorts not your thing? Honestly, mine either! If you are like me and looking for an alternative to wearing shorts in the summer, read on for what to wear if you don't like shorts.

Casual Above the Knee Dresses

If you aren’t sure what to wear if you don’t like shorts, my immediate and favorite go-to for summer is a casual above the knee dress. These loose, easy options flatter every body type and keep you comfortable in the heat of the summer. Plus, it’s an outfit all in one piece! My particular favorites are usually a jersey material that can be dressed up or down and easily washed.

Style Tip – Change up your shoes to easily go from a casual to dressier look.

This leopard drop waist dress is only $20 and washes so well. The perfect non-shorts summer outfit idea.

Cotton or Casual Midi/Maxi Dresses

If you are tall like me or just prefer to have something a little modest, a cotton or casual midi or maxi dress is probably the best option. I personally LOVE this choice as it is much more mom friendly than a shorter dress.

Cropped Jeans or Pants

If you are looking for a non-dress alternative to shorts, cropped jeans or pants are your best option for summer. I prefer to buy a looser style to maximize coolness. Lenin or cotton can also be a great option.

Style Tip – Opt for a higher waist to define at your narrowest point and balance the volume of the leg. See my post here about what shoes to wear with cropped jeans.

Cropped jeans or pants can be an easy and fun idea when wondering what to wear if you don't like shorts.

Jumpsuits

Another great non-dress or shorts option for summer is a jumpsuit. These come in many styles and can be really flattering when done right. If you don’t like a skinny leg, opt for a wider leg option that almost gives the illusion of a dress. Here’s the link to my first one pictured.

Style Tip – Make sure your waist is defined!

What to Wear if You Don’t Like Shorts

A casual short dress, a easy to wear midi or maxi dress, cropped jeans or pants, and jumpsuits are my favorite suggestions for what to wear if you don’t like shorts. I also like short rompers and overalls, but they are basically another version of shorts, so I did not mention them here. You can also consider a longer, bermuda type short or adding a kimono over your shorts just for extra coverage.

I love wearing dresses in the summer, and my other staple is denim shorts. I am mostly a dress girl. I love all of them on you and that blue tie dye dress looks so pretty and comfy!

I’m tall as well so I always get issues finding shorts or skirts or pants to be the proper length to lay well on me. This is such a great post with wonderful tips πŸ™‚

Love this as I’m way more comfortable in dresses! I’ve recently gotten back into wearing shorts, but still prefer dresses or rompers in the heat <3

If I had long legs I’d totally wear the short shorts more often haha. You look amazing in anything. I do have to say I wear dresses more often in the summer though – you know I’m loving the camo print dress!

I like shorts okay, but I feel more comfortable in dresses in the summer for sure. These are all such pretty looks, and I also have a couple of those dresses from Target and they are DEFINITELY more comfy than shorts! I love the idea of a jumpsuit too to replace shorts!

You have so many great dresses! I used to hate shorts and spent the warmer months in dresses or lightweight loose trousers. But now I am kind of enjoying shorts. However, I do still love a cute, causal, comfortable maxi dress in summer time. I need to add more of those to my wardrobe.

It’s so important to be comfortable in what you wear. If I had your legs, I would be wearing more shorts tho. haha. You look lovely in four outfits and I love the short pink dress on you.
